To New and Prospective LPMS Parents and Students

Lewis-Palmer Middle School accurately reflects the community it serves. Proud of its tradition and heritage, it is also proud to be a progressive learning center. The vision of LPMS is to “Promote a Community of Learners Achieving Success”. The goal of LPMS is to provide every student with the best possible education designed to provide basic skills, while also preparing students for the advanced educational needs required for the twenty-first century.

Lewis-Palmer Middle School is a middle school in philosophy and in practice, and is structured to provide a smooth transition for students from the elementary school environment to the rigors of high school. Students are placed in teams to create small communities for learning. All students are expected to meet the grade level district and state standards. Students not meeting those standards will be required to demonstrate mastery of those standards prior to promotion to the next grade level. Lewis-Palmer Middle School expects to provide for more than 750 students in the 2009-10 school year.

New programs and ideas are generated and implemented every year, still within the framework of basic skills and advanced opportunities. Interdisciplinary units, aimed at assisting students in making connections between subject areas, are found at all grade levels. All academic areas are balanced with basic skills reinforcement and accelerated learning opportunities. Computer education is integrated into the core academic curricula.

A variety of programs at LPMS address the social and emotional development of our students. A strong counseling program coordinates activities including: a transition program for sixth grade students (WEB), individual counseling, group sessions, and affective education components. Solid art and music programs anchor a variety of exploratory opportunities for students. Academic performance is enhanced with health and physical education classes, as well as through extracurricular athletic programs, and intramurals.

LPMS is staffed with young teachers as well as young thinking veteran teachers who are expert at and committed to teaching young adolescents. Teachers and parents share in making decisions about the educational experiences of our students. An involved parent-teacher organization, an engaged advisory accountability committee, and considerable turnout at school events indicate that we are making progress in engaging families in the education of LPMS students. Our guiding philosophy is to empower everyone involved in the educational process of our students.
